Fish Farming in Taiwan is one of the most important sources of food supply. Fisheries Department is dynamically grasping information such as the aquaculture area and stocking status of the national aquaculture.
The following information is derived from data provided by Taiwan Fisheries Administration Council of Agriculture. According to data collected for the eel farming in 13 counties and 9 different cities in Taiwan for the period from 2007 to 2018 (up to May), there is around 612 (average) fishing area(hectares), more than 627 (average) Fisherman households and 79,665,200 (average) is the stocking status of the national aquaculture for eel. Japanese eel, widely distributed in Taiwan, China, Korea and Japan. Japonica is the most abundant among the 4 species found in Taiwan, comprising approx. 100% of the total eel catch in the wild. Japanese eel is harvested at different stages (glass eel, elver, and yellow and silver eels) by different fisheries in Taiwan.
If we saw the data of Taiwan from 2007 to 2018 on the basis of Fishing area (Hectares), starting from the year 2007 the area is 1064.56 it slowly increases up to 2010, highest in the year 2010 (i.e., 1,271.10) and then it continuously decreases, in the year 2018 (i.e., 167.1133)
On the basis of Breeding Households, starting from 830 in the year 2007, it increases up to 1,199 in the year 2010 which is the highest and then decreases to 211 in the year 2018 which is the lowest. For Stocking starting from 137,128,982 in the year 2007, it increases up to 202,747,815 in the year 2009 and then decreases to 12,636,450 in the year 2013 and again it slowly increases and decreases from the year 2014 to 2018 and finally reaches at 18,719,122 in the year 2018.
